Just do what you fancy --- 5-day self-guided break

The Bellevue gîte-hotel has put together a selection of our favourite mountain bike rides through the varied landscapes that the Cantal volcano has to offer. The programme includes ridge paths, forests, transhumance plateaux and even historic paths such as the Chemin de St Jacques. This is an opportunity to discover the breathtaking beauty of the Cantalien landscape. Situated in the heart of the Parc Régional des Volcans d'Auvergne (Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Park), this experience will be a source of emotion and rejuvenation.

The advantages of your break:

  • A varied programme of hiking excursions to discover the many facets of the Cantal volcano
  • A break in an authentic family atmosphere
  • No need to drive (SNCF train stations at Murat and Le Lioran).

Holiday programme

  • Col de Prat de Bouc mountain pass and Cirque de Chamalière. In summer, the slopes that were used as ski runs in winter offer some great routes to explore. Departing from the hotel, you can explore the eastern part of the Cantal volcano and discover a varied mix of terrain, crossing meadows and rocky paths. 50 km - 1100 m ascent.

  • Plomb du Cantal. The suggested route takes you up to the summit along a panoramic path affording breathtaking views, then back down along the Roman road winding through the summer pastures. The route features magnificent scenery on the ridges, and the ascent leads through charming villages and wooded areas in the Cère valley. 45 km - 1600 m ascent.

  • Limon plateau. Are you tempted by a vast plateau evocative of Mongolia? This is the route for you, but you have to earn it! Between the Monts and Limon, you'll be overwhelmed by the breathtaking scenery, dominated by the majestic Puy Mary and Peyre Arse mountains. The route winds its way along volcanic flows of contrasting terrain, with sections varying in steepness.  45 km - 1100 m ascent.

  • La Pinatelle massif. A gentler, wooded terrain where the paths offer a variety of gradients. This is a gentler trek in terms of terrain, on paths that are easier to negotiate, passing close to the Lac du Pêcher, where a break is a must.
    41 km - 850 m ascent.
  • Planèze and Alagnon valley. Forested and sheltered sections in the Alagnon valley with more straightforward trails on the basalt plateau of the Planèze de Saint Flour. The route takes you past farms and through villages, offering superb views of the Cantalien massif. 43 km - 850 m ascent.

This is a suggestion for routes that we have organised into a programme of 3, 4 or 5 outings so that you can get the most out of our region, which is ideal for mountain biking.  This break can be modified to suit your wishes or due to weather conditions.
