In the heart of the Massif Central, Cantal is steeped in natural and architectural treasures that are truly astonishing. This region features open landscapes and a vast heritage, with churches, villages, mills and other small rural buildings dotted around the region. You can soak up these wonders on hiking trails that are easily accessible. Le Bellevue gîte-hotel offers 5 one-day hikes to explore different landscapes and heritage features at your own pace. You will also have a rest day on Wednesday to relax in the hotel garden or go on a cultural visit in the surrounding area.
The Plateau d'Entremont and Castle Sailhant. We’ll explore the vast expanses of the volcanic plateau, shaped by glaciers and now home to transhumance herds. Discover the peat bogs formed by water-filled glacial hollows, offering a breathtaking view of the horizon. On one of these basalt rock spurs, stands the majestic Castle Sailhant. Listed as a historic monument, it is a remarkable site to discover.
Village of Albepierre- Bredons. Situated between the Benet and Lagnon valleys, Albepierre exudes a very distinctive character. Its church is adorned with particularly interesting stained glass windows, as is the 12th-century church of Bredons overlooking Murat. As we walk along the shady path between the two churches, we can enjoy breathtaking views of these architectural marvels.
Puy Griou. We have chosen the geographical centre of the volcano for our one-day hike. Le Griou, a mineral summit made up of phonolite, is enthroned in the middle of the transhumance meadows and the Cantalien massif.
