Departure – Departure is from Place du Balat, in front of the “espace randonnée” sign.
- Head towards Hôtel-de-Ville, then take rue Faubourg Notre-Dame. Before a fountain, climb a few steps to the left. Cross rue du Bon Secours and continue up the steps to rue Porte Saint-Esprit; turn left (along the street, towards the statue of Notre-Dame de la Haute-Auvergne).
- Turn right into rue des Remparts, and further up into rue Marchadial, which you turn right into to leave the town center. After a left-hand bend, at the crossroads, turn right up the hill. Rejoin the D39.
- Cross the road and continue straight ahead on rue de la Pinatelle. Pass a water reservoir, an intersection and reach the start of a path on the right, between houses.
- Take the path around the houses. Further on, it returns to the top of the street. The trail can be started here for the visually impaired.
- Continue straight ahead on the track. At the next crossroads, marked by a stele, turn right, then take the first track on the left. It climbs through the undergrowth to the top of the plateau.
- At the summit, there’s a picnic area where you can admire the panoramic view of Murat and the Monts du Cantal. The return journey is shared, back to the start of the road.
- Leave the street and turn right onto the path below; it passes behind the houses and joins the D39; turn right for about 10 m; then left onto the path below the lane. After a bend in the road, turn right onto rue de Bonnevie. Turn left, down Rue de Lavergne towards the old town, then into a cul-de-sac.
- Turn left and take the stairs leading to the corner of rue d’Armagnac. Turn right again and take the second alley on the left, rue de la Voûte, which leads to the church. Turn right in front of the market hall. At the crossroads, turn left into rue du 12 et 24 juin 1944 as far as the town hall.
